2018 Mazda3 vs 2018 Honda Civic

It’s no wonder that Mazda and Honda are commonly compared to each other. They are two very dependable brands that are popular with drivers. So, we are back again, this time to compare the 2018 Mazda3 to the 2018 Honda Civic in an effort to see what vehicle pulls ahead of its competition.
To compare these two sedans, we’ve made a table that has some common specs and features most car shoppers look at; power and fuel efficiency. In an effort to be as specific as possible, we will be looking at the base trim levels for each sedan. This means that we will be using the specs and features of the 2018 Mazda3 Sport 4-door with the 2.0-Liter 4-cylinder engine. It will be compared to the 2018 Honda Civic LX 4-door with the 2.0-Liter 4-Cylinder engine. Now without further ado; the 2018 Mazda3 vs the 2018 Honda Civic.

2018 Mazda3

Vs

2018 Honda Civic

155 hp Horsepower 158 hp
150 ft-lbs Torque 138 ft-lbs
28/38/31 mpg Fuel Economy (city/hwy/combined) 28/40/32 mpg
13.2 gal Fuel Capacity 12.4 gal

Advantages of the 2018 Mazda3

This was an extremely close competition, but the Mazda3 is just a bit ahead of the Civic. It may not be very clear in the table, but that is why we are here! So, as you can see in the table above, the Civic has a bit more horsepower than the Mazda3. However, horsepower is only part of what makes a vehicle powerful. For that, you need torque as well, and that is where the Mazda3 pulls ahead. It has significantly more power than the Civic does.
Likewise, the Civic seems to be better when it comes to fuel efficiency. But, if you look closely, you’ll notice that, while the Civic does get 1 mile per gallon more for the combined fuel economy, and 2 mpg more on the highway, the Mazda3 has a bigger fuel tank. Which means that, while the Civic does have slightly better fuel economy, the Mazda3 has a wider range because of its larger fuel tank. This means that you’ll potentially find yourself stopping at the gas station less in the Mazda3 than you would in the Civic.
