Research on the 2018 Mazda CX-5 is now compared to one of its common competitors; the 2018 Honda CR-V. These two vehicles are extremely close when it comes to power and fuel efficiency, but something gives the 2018 Mazda CX-5 an advantage.
For the purpose of specificity, we’ll be taking the lowest trim, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 Sport, with the 2.5L 4cyl engine. This is pitted against the 2018 Honda CR-V LC, with the 2.4L 4cyl engine. When we say we are looking at power, we mean the horsepower and torque of each vehicle. For fuel efficiency, we will look at the fuel capacity, and cargo space.
Hopefully by the end of this comparison, you will be able to determine what vehicle would best suit your lifestyle.
As you can see in the table above, the Mazda CX-5 has more horsepower and torque than the CR-V. It has 187 horsepower compared to the 184 horsepower. This is also reflected in the torque, with the Mazda CX-5 generating 186 ft-lbs, while the CR-V has 180. This isn’t a drastic difference, but still enough of one to set the Mazda CX-5 ahead of the Honda CR-V.
Fuel capacity is once again narrow. The 2018 Mazda CX-5 has a slightly bigger fuel tank than the 2018 Honda CR-V. However, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 has a significantly larger cargo capacity, at 30.9 cubic feet, compared to the 2018 Honda CR-V and it’s 24.3 cubic feet.
With the Mazda CX-5 having more power, and the fuel capacity and cargo space almost even, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 has a starting MRSP $24,150*, as does the 2018 Honda CR-V. Because of the same starting MRSP, the Mazda CX-5 pulls ahead of the Honda CR-V, as you will get more power in the vehicle, and will pay around the same as the CR-V.
